The Institute for Graduate Studies in Social Sciences
The Institute for Graduate Studies in Social Sciences is responsible for the general coordination, steering and advancement of MA and PhD programs run by 18 different academic departments and four interdisciplinary programs.
The mission of the Institute is (i) to promote an academic environment conducive to high-level scientific research in social sciences, humanities, economics and administrative sciences, educational sciences, as well as in applied disciplines related to these fields; (ii) to support graduate students carrying out independent original research, and (iii) to prepare graduate students for academic and professional careers in their chosen fields.
The Institute is headed by the Institute Director, appointed by the Rector for a term of three years.
The primary decision-making body of the Institute is the Institute Council. Chaired by the Institute Director, the Council consists of the heads of the Institute's 18 academic departments and four interdisciplinary programs. Associate Directors are also (ex officio) members of the Institute Council. The Council convenes at least twice each semester.
The Institute Director manages the day-to-day operations of the Institute together with the Institute Executive Board. The Board is made up of the Institute Director, Associate Directors, and three faculty members elected by the Institute Council. The Institute Executive Board generally meets twice a month.
The Institute Secretariat is composed of the Institute Secretary and two administrative secretaries.
