For graduate students who will take the Qualifying Exam, hold a Thesis Supervisory Committee meeting, or defend their MA/PhD Thesis during the Spring Semester of the 2025/2026 Academic Year, the deadline for completing all required procedures is June 10, 2026, which is the last day of the final examinations.

To ensure your processes proceed smoothly, please pay close attention to the specified dates. Please take into account the possibility of a high workload.

• The thesis defense committee must be formed at least 2 months prior to the defense and submitted to the Institute via the program (sbe@bogazici.edu.tr).

• At least three* weeks prior to the defense date, the advisor must send an email to sbe@bogazici.edu.tr including the location, date, and time of the thesis defense, along with a PDF copy of the thesis as an attachment. This email must also include the full names and email addresses of all committee members (including alternate members).

• To facilitate the advisor’s process, students are requested to use the relevant template here and forward it to their advisor for submission. (Please save the PDF file with the student’s full name followed by “MA Thesis” or “PhD Thesis.” For example: Lamia Kabal MA Thesis or Buse Eren PhD Thesis)

• At least one week before the defense date, the thesis title page and the approval page must be prepared in accordance with the correct format and submitted to the editor for approval (boun.sbe.editor@gmail.com).

Thesis Submission Process for Students Who Have Successfully Completed Their Thesis Defense

  • Students who have successfully completed their thesis defense are required to submit their theses within 1 month at the latest. Upon request, the Institute Executive Board may extend the submission period for up to one additional month (you may submit a request via e-petition).
  • After defending your thesis and before submitting the printed copy to the Institute, please send the final (post-defense) version of your thesis, revised in accordance with the guidelines and in Word format, to boun.sbe.editor@gmail.com for format checking. Based on the editor’s report, you must ensure that all requested revisions have been completed. Please also print the editor’s report and include it among the documents you will submit.

Note: Please ensure that your thesis is submitted to the editor, who is responsible for supporting all students, in good time, allowing at least two weeks for the review and report preparation process.

  • You may submit the printed copy of your thesis to the Institute of Social Sciences together with 2 CDs and 2 YÖK Thesis Data Entry Forms (YÖK Tez Üst Veri Giriş Formu).
  • Please log in to the YÖK Thesis Center (YÖK Tez Merkezi) to access the Thesis Data Entry Form; this will also generate a reference number for your thesis. The two CDs you submit must contain your thesis in PDF format, and the file name must include your thesis reference number. If you do not yet have an ORCID, you must also create one.
  • If your defense was held online, the defense recording must also be submitted on a CD (in this case, there will be a total of 3 CDs).
  • Please ensure that the CDs you submit do not contain any personal information (such as phone numbers, addresses, or email addresses). We kindly ask that you pay attention to this matter.
  • Only the printed version must bear the wet signatures of the jury members on the approval page and your signature on the declaration of originality. You must ensure that the electronic and printed versions of the thesis are identical in form and content, with the exception of signatures. Please remember to write the date you submitted your thesis in the date section of the declaration of originality.
  • Please note that you must submit your thesis to the Institute in person.

Graduation Procedures

Provided that the student is successful in the thesis defense and fulfills the other graduation requirements determined by the Senate, a master’s/doctoral student who submits the printed thesis and other required documents to the Institute within one month of the thesis defense date, and whose thesis is found to comply with formal requirements, is awarded a thesis-based master’s/doctoral degree.

• Given that the latest date for the thesis defense is June 10, the student must submit their printed thesis and other required documents to the Institute by June 23 at the latest in order for their graduation to be approved at the Institute Board of Directors meeting on June 24 and for them to receive their diploma at the graduation ceremony to be held this semester. If the submission is not completed by this date, the graduation procedures will not be processed in time for the ceremony.

We kindly request that you pay attention to the specified dates in order to avoid any disruption to your processes or any inconvenience.
